Unverkaufte Mode darf nicht länger vernichtet werden.

Unsold fashion can no longer be destroyed.

This week, the European Parliament passed the new Ecodesign Regulation. Its purpose is to curb fast fashion in Europe by prohibiting clothing that is declared as new in the European Union if it has not been sold. A major problem with the new regulation, however, is the issue of verifiability. How can it be checked whether new goods have actually been destroyed? This applies both to brick-and-mortar retail and, in particular, to online retail, where it will be much more difficult to carry out a verification. The idea behind the regulation is definitely right, but the path to achieving it is still very vague.
